Common Questions

Salida and Buena Vista Mentor

Common Questions

Do the mentors receive a background check?

Definitely! All mentors must pass a CBI, FBI, Department of Social Services and driving background check in order to become a mentor.

Does my child qualify?

If the youth wants to be part of the Chaffee County Mentors Program, they live in the community, are between the ages of 7 and 21 and the guardian or parent supports the youth involvement, then the youth will qualify.

What is the length of a mentor/mentee match?

We ask that both the mentor and mentee commit to at least a year with the program. At that year time, we evaluate the relationship to see if both the mentor and mentee want to continue. We also ask that each match spends a minimum of 8 to 12 hours a month together.

What fees are involved?

The Chaffee County Mentor Program is free. Our monthly activities are also free. Sometimes we ask for mentees to bring a sack lunch for day activities. We also encourage matches to participate in free activities on their own time as well.
