MENTORS+

Paid Mentoring Positions are currently available with Chaffee County Mentors Plus.  Mentors+ are matched one-on-one with an adolescent 14 to 18 years of age and meet with their mentee up to 6 hours per week.  Job includes weekly supervision and monthly trainings with Mentors Plus Manager, Menessah Nelson.  Mentors must be at least 21 years of age and have a bachelor’s degree and/or at least 2 years experience working with adolescents.  Contact Menessah Nelson for more information: 719-539-8659 or 719-207-1114

MENTORS PLUS JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:              Mentor Plus Worker

Position Summary:    A Mentor’s Plus Worker provides a support system and companionship to Chaffee County adolescents and their parents.  Mentors+ develop a relationship with the youth and act as a positive role model.  Mentors+ work on goal setting with a strengths-based and solution-focused approach. Mentors+ share everyday activities: playing sports, seeing movies, cooking, going over school work, taking walks, volunteering in their communities, or just hanging out together. A Mentor+ can help a youth discover a world of possibilities and opportunities simply by being a genuine friend.

Program Mission Statement: Chaffee County Mentors Plus is committed to helping youth and families in challenging environments break barriers, empower change, and strengthen resiliency through one-on-one mentoring.

Qualifications:  Related college degree and/or minimum 2 years experience in working with adolescents

Requirements:

  • Ability and genuine interest in working with youth in at-risk environments
  • Sensitivity
  • Well developed communication and listening skills
  • Commitment to mentorship for a minimum of 8-12 months
  • Experience in working with adolescents
  • Serve as a support and advocate at staff meetings & other professionals involved with the youth
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Bi-weekly group or individual supervision with the Program Manager
  • Participation in monthly and quarterly activities and trainings with FYI.

Hours:  Six hours of contact face-to-face with your youth (1 hour includes supervision wkly); hours are flexible to meet your personal schedule, but can adapt to the youth’s needs. We encourage you to attend group activities which are designed to enhance your one-on-one relationship.

Trainings:  Pre-match training is required.  There will be mentor development trainings and the Chaffee County Mentors+ Manager or Staff will be available to handle individual concerns on an as needed basis.
