Scot Zellmer & Nish P, December 8, 2008
Scot was hired with the Mentors Plus Program on September 23rd, 2008. He’s been living in the Coaldale area for nearly 5 years. His experience includes working as a wilderness guide and ski instructor and has also had experience teaching at an alternative high school. There he developed an outdoor program for at-risk teenagers.
In December Nish Pugh and Scot were matched with our program. One month has passed. Things are going well. “We’re having fun doing things together.” If asked, this is what Nish would tell you about his being matched with his mentor Scot. Nish and Scot have many things in common. They have both lived in Hawaii, they both like mayo on their french fries and they both are snowboarders (Nish is quite a bit better than Scot, however!)
They are invested in creating a relationship that will be lasting and strengthening each others social skills. As the mentor, Scot is excited about sharing past experiences with Nish and, just as importantly, learning from Nish how the world looks through his eyes.
As the mentee, Nish is also excited and willing to learn a lot from Scot, as he has much to teach. Nish enjoys spending time with Scot and learning life skills. Watch this space for upcoming news on how Nish has taught Scot how to do an Indy grab and Scot instructs Nish on how to make a health insurance claim for a broken leg.
